Types Of Headaches
Migraines
Migraine without aura - Unilateral, pulsating and moderate to severe in intensity headaches are attacks that occur at least 5 times a month lasting for a few hours to 3 days. They can be caused or aggravated by walking and climbing and can be associated with nausea, vomiting, irritation by light or sound, which cannot be linked to other disorders.
Migraine with aura - at least 2 attacks with momentary loss of vision, visible flickering lights or spots and/or fully-reversed speech disturbance. Each symptom may last 5 to 60 minutes unilaterally; not attributed to other disorders.
Tension-Type Headache
A feeling of tightness around the forehead, back of head and neck areas most commonly associated with stress.
Trigeminal Autonomic Cephalalgias (TACs)
Chronic cluster headache
Chronic paroxysmal hemicranias
Short-lasting Unilateral Neuralgiform headache with Conjunctival injection and Tearing (SUNCT)
Hemicrania continua
Symptoms of these kinds are unilateral, short lasting headaches associated with teary eyes, eye redness and nose congestion that is not caused by other disorders.
Treatment for most of these headaches includes medical management but a few require interventional pain management.
